If you’re following the rise of cricket in America (and we know you are — you’re here at Batball USA, after all), then this update should get you hyped: Pubudu Dassanayake is officially back as the head coach of Team USA.

For those just joining the cricket conversation, Dassanayake is a former Sri Lankan international who first coached the U.S. team from 2016 to 2019. Under his leadership, the USA men’s squad achieved a huge milestone: earning One Day International (ODI) status — a major win for American cricket.

“I’m excited to return and help continue the development of USA Cricket,” Dassanayake said. “This team has a lot of potential and I believe we can achieve even greater heights.”

This isn’t just about a coach coming back. It’s about a vision — one that Dassanayake has executed before with teams like Nepal and Canada. In fact, he’s widely loved in Nepal for guiding them to their first T20 World Cup back in 2014. His strength lies in building competitive teams from the ground up — and that’s exactly what cricket in the U.S. needs right now.

At Batball USA, we’re watching closely. The combination of an experienced coach, a growing fanbase, and international tournaments on home soil could finally be the spark that pushes cricket into the American mainstream.
